Optical Window
Sunday Optics manufactures custom precision optical windows as part of our Custom Optical Components solutions for protecting optical components, separating different operating environments and transmitting light with minimal influence on system performance. Our optical windows can be produced in custom materials, diameters, thicknesses, shapes and coating configurations for laser, imaging, sensing and optical instrument applications.
Available products include N-BK7 windows, quartz windows, Brewster windows and optical windows with holes. With four-axis polishing, large-size ring polishing and precision machining capabilities, we support optical window prototypes as well as repeat production requirements.
| Window Type | Features | Applications |
|---|---|---|
| N-BK7 Window | Good visible and near-infrared transmission, consistent optical properties and cost-effective precision processing | Imaging systems, cameras, sensors and general optical instruments |
| Quartz Window | Good thermal stability and broad optical transmission, depending on the selected quartz or fused silica grade | UV instruments, laser systems, analytical equipment and high-temperature environments |
| Brewster Window | Designed for use at Brewster’s angle to reduce reflection loss for p-polarized light | Laser cavities, polarization systems and laboratory laser equipment |
| Window with Hole | Custom opening position, diameter, edge shape and overall dimensions | Optical assemblies, vacuum equipment, sensors and specialized instruments |
Sunday Optics supplies custom-size optical windows according to customer drawings and optical specifications. Current processing capabilities include:
◆ Diameter: 1 mm to 1000 mm
◆ Diameter tolerance: ±0.02 mm
◆ Surface quality: up to 10-5
◆ Surface flatness: up to λ/10
◆ Parallelism: less than 3 arc seconds
◆ Standard chamfer: 0.25 mm × 45°, or customized
◆ Custom round, square, rectangular and drilled configurations
◆ Prototype, small-batch and production order support
Specifications depend on the substrate, dimensions, thickness and coating requirements. Our engineers can review the relationship between optical performance, manufacturing tolerance and project cost before production.
Material selection should be based on operating wavelength, temperature, environmental exposure, mechanical strength and budget. Sunday Optics processes N-BK7, quartz, fused silica, sapphire, CaF2, silicon, germanium and other optical materials according to project requirements.
Custom coatings are available to improve transmission or provide the required spectral performance. Options include anti-reflective coatings and application-specific reflective coatings. When requesting a coated optical window, please specify:
◆ Operating wavelength or wavelength range
◆ Required average or minimum transmission
◆ Angle of incidence
◆ Coated surface
◆ Environmental and laser power requirements
For standard visible optical systems, N-BK7 offers a practical balance between optical performance and cost. Quartz or fused silica is generally selected when UV transmission, thermal stability or laser performance is more important.
◆ Precision polishing for demanding flatness and parallelism requirements
◆ Large-size optical window manufacturing capability
◆ Multiple optical glass, crystal and infrared material options
◆ Custom holes, dimensions, edge profiles and coating configurations
◆ Engineering support from drawing review through production
◆ Support for samples, prototypes and repeat bulk orders
◆ Inspection based on agreed optical and dimensional specifications
